Thursday 17th September - Windsurf ** - The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny and
warm.
Fin – 24.37 knot max, 21.89 knot ave ., 10.75 knot hour, 17.18 knot mile,
25.70 km ., 11.41 knot alpha.
F2 Zantos 295 with 38 fin and Tushingham Lightning 7m.
F2 282 Ride with Tushingham Lightning 7m and 38 fin.
With our son, his partner and Grandson coming up for a few days to
celebrate Mag’s 60th Birthday I was a little limited for time so against
my better judgement headed down to The Dip even though it was wind with
tide and approaching high water and to be honest I got exactly what I
expected and it was crap:(
It started well enough on reaching the beach the east wind was registering
20 mph and the sea was still low enough to look OK so quickly rigged my 7m
for the F2 Ride 282 (115lt) Sadly as soon as I launched I know that this
combination was not big enough, stupidly I sailed two miles off shore in
marginal planning conditions and then returned 400m downwind of my
launching spot and only just had enough beach to land. You are never to old
for the walk of shame as I returned my kit to the trailer taking two trips!
I set up my bigger Xantos 295 but was in no hurry to launch again as the
condition deteriorated with the sea getting bigger with a bit of a shore
dump now:( I did force myself to have a go with the bigger kit and got off
the beach OK and the wind had filled in a little but the sea was pretty
bad, huge waves and confused chop so not much fun so decided to call it a
day and was packing up when the sensible sailors started to arrive, to be
honest even they were a tad too early and were not in any hurry to rig! So,
the morale of this story is avoiding high water at Felixstowe and try if
possible, to not go out when it is wind with tide unless you are foiling
when it doesn’t seem to make any difference! Still I suppose its another
session making 81 for the year, not bad considering I didn’t sail for a
month in Feb when away in the mountains and then of course the 50 odd days
of covid lockdown. Sadly, it seems we are heading that way again:(
